I have devoted my professional life to serving kids as a math teacher. I have been involved in delivering quality education to the entire community through my work as an elected trustee on the Foothill-DeAnza College Board. I have also been involved in the non-profit sector as a volunteer and Board President of The Role Model Program, which places community mentors into junior high school classrooms throughout our County. Every day, I see the impact of family stress on children. I believe that a key mission of government should be to support parents as they help children learn, grow and thrive.

I want to see that kids have a quality education and access to recreation. I am pleased that the City of Cupertino is working with the local school districts (Cupertino and the Fremont Union High School District) on grounds maintenance. I want to see this collaboration expanded in order to better connect the services of the Parks and Recreation department to our local schools. The City must also work with the schools to help find solutions to the crucial issue of affordable housing for educators.

The City of Cupertino needs to work on providing more recreational outlets for teens. By providing positive options, these kids will stay out of trouble and make positive contributions to our community. We are currently considering options for a teen center and mobile skatepark.

As a Council Member, I want to ensure that youth services are delivered efficiently and effectively. We need to show kids in deeds, not just words, that they are our future.

"Dolly Sandoval will bring needed services to our schools that will help our students succeed," said Roberta Pabst, former Cupertino School District Trustee.
